Terms and Conditions
1. About RivChat
RivChat is a private messaging web application operated by ByCrow Ltd.
RivChat allows users to:Create a personal or business account
Connect with other RivChat users
Exchange private messages
Optionally request River analysis of selected messages
Optionally fetch legal files and/or links to attach to the thread for contextual purposes
Optionally inspect their messages before sending them
Optionally request River’s insights on relationship trajectories
RivChat is not a public social network. It does not provide a public directory of users. Access to RivChat may also be restricted by an access code or other access-control method.
2. Eligibility
RivChat is intended for people aged 18 or older.
By using RivChat, you confirm that:
- You are at least 18 years old
- You are legally able to enter into these Terms
- You will use RivChat only for lawful purposes
- The information you provide is accurate
- You are responsible for protecting your account credentials
We do not knowingly permit children to use RivChat.
3. Creating an Account
You must provide a username, email address, password, language preference, and account type when creating an account.
Each email address may only be used for one RivChat account.
You must not:
- Create an account using another person’s identity
- Use an email address without permission
- Share your password
- Allow another person to access your account
- Attempt to bypass access controls
Passwords are stored as password hashes. ByCrow Ltd does not store passwords in plain text.
You are responsible for activity carried out through your account. Contact us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.
4. Personal and Business Accounts
RivChat may offer personal and business account types.
Personal accounts are intended for ordinary private conversations.
Business accounts may be used by professionals, including coaches, consultants, therapists, lawyers, and other client-facing users, subject to all applicable professional, legal, confidentiality, and data-protection obligations.
Business users are solely responsible for deciding whether they have permission to enter client information and fetch files or links for attachment into RivChat and for complying with any professional confidentiality obligations.
5. Acceptable Use
You must not use RivChat to:
- Harass, threaten, stalk, abuse, or intimidate another person
- Share unlawful, fraudulent, or deliberately harmful content
- Attempt to access another person’s account
- Impersonate another person or organisation
- Upload malicious software or harmful code
- Interfere with RivChat’s operation or security
- Circumvent access controls or rate limits
- Scrape, copy, or collect user information without permission
- Reverse-engineer, misuse, or attempt to extract River’s underlying systems
- Use RivChat in a way that breaches professional, legal, medical, legal-services, or confidentiality duties
- Submit information that you do not have the right to process
We may restrict, suspend, or terminate accounts that breach these Terms or create a risk to users, ByCrow Ltd, or the service.
6. Messages and User Content
You retain responsibility for messages and other content that you submit to RivChat.
You confirm that you have the necessary rights and permissions to submit that content and allow RivChat to process it to provide the service.
You must not submit confidential, personal, medical, legal, financial, or identifying information unless you are authorised to do so and understand the risks involved.
RivChat may process messages to:
- Deliver and display conversations
- Store conversation history
- Support River analysis when requested
- Maintain, secure, and operate the service
- Investigate abuse, security incidents, or legal requests
7. River’s Analysis
River provides optional analysis of message tone, emotional context, likely intent, conversational patterns, and related communication signals.
River's output is:
- Informational and advisory only
- Based on the messages and context available to it
- Potentially incomplete or inaccurate
- Not a statement of fact about another person
- Not therapy, counselling, diagnosis, legal advice, medical advice, or professional advice
- Not a replacement for human judgment or professional assessment
River cannot reliably determine what another person feels, intends, or believes.
You are responsible for how you interpret and use River's output. You must not rely on River alone when making decisions involving safety, health, legal matters, employment, safeguarding, or other serious consequences.
8. River’s InsightsRiver provides optional insights on relationship trajectories, regardless of account type.
River's output is:
- Informational and advisory only
- Based on the messages and context available to it
- Potentially incomplete or inaccurate
- Not a statement of fact about another person
- Not therapy, counselling, diagnosis, legal advice, medical advice, or professional advice
- Not a replacement for human judgment or professional assessment
River cannot reliably determine what another person feels, intends, or believes. River cannot reliably determine your relationship dynamics with other RivChat users.
You are responsible for how you interpret and use River's output. You must not rely on River alone when making decisions involving safety, health, legal matters, employment, safeguarding, or other serious consequences.You are responsible for how you interpret River’s output regarding River’s insights on your relationship trajectories, regardless of account type.
9. Password Recovery
RivChat may send password-reset emails to the email address associated with an account.
RivChat does not recover passwords.
Password-reset links are intended to be temporary and may expire. You must not share a password-reset link with another person.
Email delivery depends on external email providers and may be delayed, blocked, or filtered as spam.
10. Availability and Changes
RivChat is provided on an “as available” basis.
We may:
- Add, remove, or modify features
- Perform maintenance
- Temporarily suspend access
- Restrict access for security or operational reasons
- Update the service without advance notice
We do not guarantee that RivChat will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every device or browser.
11. Intellectual Property
RivChat, River, the RivChat name, branding, software, designs, text, and related materials belong to ByCrow Ltd or its licensors.
You may use RivChat only for its intended purpose. You must not copy, reproduce, sell, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from RivChat or River without written permission.
12. Third-Party Services
RivChat may rely on third-party services for hosting, infrastructure, email delivery, analytics, security, or artificial-intelligence processing.
Those providers may process limited information as necessary to provide their services and may have their own terms and privacy policies.
13. Suspension and Termination
You may stop using RivChat at any time.
We may suspend or terminate your account if:
- You breach these Terms
- Your use creates a security, legal, or safety risk
- We are required to do so by law
- The service is discontinued
- Your account is involved in fraud, abuse, or unauthorised activity
When an account is deleted, some information may remain temporarily in backups, logs, or records where retention is necessary for security, legal, fraud-prevention, or dispute-resolution purposes.
14. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ByCrow Ltd does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of River's analysis or any other RivChat output.
You remain responsible for:
- Your conversations
- Your professional decisions
- Your use of client information
- Your interpretation of River's output
- Obtaining any necessary consent or permission
- Complying with applicable laws and professional rules
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.
15. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ByCrow Ltd is not responsible for:
- Decisions made using any of River's output
- Emotional, professional, financial, legal, or business outcomes
- Incorrect or incomplete analysis
- User-generated content
- Service interruptions or unavailability
- Loss caused by failure to secure an account
- Loss caused by unauthorised or unlawful use of the service
- Delays or failures by third-party providers
This section does not limit liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot legally be limited.
16. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time.
The updated version will be published with a new “Last updated” date. Your continued use of RivChat after an update means that you accept the updated Terms.
17. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
The courts of England and Wales will generally have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes relating to RivChat, subject to any mandatory rights you may have under the law of your country.
18. Gmail Use
Gmail integration is optional and is currently offered for RivChat business accounts. The connected Google account may be a personal Gmail account or a Google Workspace account with Gmail enabled.
By connecting Gmail, you authorise RivChat to read relevant Gmail messages and threads, retrieve requested attachments, read the connected email address, and send replies through Gmail. You confirm that you have authority to connect and use the account and to process the email information accessed through RivChat.
You are responsible for checking email recipients, message content, attachments, permissions, and professional or legal obligations before sending messages. RivChat is not responsible for Gmail outages, delivery failures, Google account restrictions, third-party policies, or actions taken by users through their connected Gmail account.
Disconnecting Gmail in RivChat stops RivChat’s stored connection, but you may also need to revoke access through your Google Account settings. Email content already imported into RivChat may remain stored according to the Privacy Policy and applicable retention requirements.
One implementation issue: the interface restricts Gmail to business users, but the backend Gmail routes do not independently enforce that restriction. Add server-side business-account validation before describing Gmail as strictly business-only. This copy is a drafting aid, not legal advice.
Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how ByCrow Ltd processes personal data when you use RivChat.
ByCrow Ltd is the controller of the personal data processed through RivChat, unless stated otherwise.
RivChat is designed for private messaging and optional communication analysis. It is not intended to replace professional systems required by law or professional regulators.
2. Information We Collect
>Account Information
When you create an account, we may collect:
- Username
- Email address
- Password hash
- Account type, such as personal or business and a profession for business accounts
- Language preference
- Optional profile picture
- Account creation and update information
We do not store passwords in plain text.
>Conversation Information
We may collect and store:
- Messages sent through RivChat
- Conversation identifiers
- Sender and recipient identifiers
- Message timestamps
- Whether River analysis was enabled for a message
- River analysis results or related processing data where required for the service
>Password-Recovery Information
When password recovery is requested, we may process:
- The email address used for the request
- A temporary password-reset token in hashed form
- The token expiry time
- Email-delivery status and related technical information
>Technical and Security Information
Depending on the hosting and infrastructure used, we may process:
- Browser or device information
- IP address
- Connection information
- Error reports
- Security and access logs
- Performance and diagnostic information
The current application does not intentionally use cross-site advertising trackers or create advertising profiles from conversations.
3. How We Use Personal Data
We use personal data to:
- Create and manage accounts
- Authenticate users
- Deliver messages
- Display conversation history
- Provide personal and business account features
- Provide River analysis when requested
- Send password-reset emails
- Maintain and improve reliability
- Detect fraud, abuse, and security incidents
- Respond to support requests
- Comply with legal obligations
- Establish, exercise, or defend legal claims
4. River and Artificial-Intelligence Processing
River analyses selected messages and relevant conversation context to provide communication guidance.
Depending on the deployment and configuration, message data may be processed by the AI provider configured for RivChat.
ByCrow Ltd does not use private conversations to train its own general-purpose AI models. However, third-party providers may have their own data-handling terms. Users should review those terms where relevant and should not submit information they are not authorised to process.
River’s analysis may be inaccurate and should not be treated as a factual determination of another person's emotions, intent, mental state, or character.
5. Email Delivery
RivChat uses Resend to send password-reset emails.
Resend may process:
- The recipient's email address
- The sender's email address
- The reset-email content
- Delivery, bounce, and complaint information
- Technical information required to deliver the email
Resend processes this information under its own terms and privacy policy.
6. Gmail Integration
RivChat offers an optional Gmail integration for users with a RivChat business account. The connected Google account may be either a personal Google/Gmail account or a Google Workspace account with Gmail enabled. RivChat does not create, own, or control the connected Google account.
When you connect Gmail, Google asks you to authorise RivChat to:
- Read Gmail messages and message metadata
- Read email threads and message content
- Retrieve email attachments when you open or request them
- Send email replies through the connected Gmail account
- Read the email address associated with the connected Google account
RivChat uses this access to display Gmail messages in the RivChat inbox, open email threads, retrieve attachments when requested, support River analysis of selected email content, and send replies with optional attachments.
Gmail message content imported into RivChat may be stored in RivChat’s database so that email threads, conversation history, and requested River features can function. RivChat does not use Gmail content for advertising. RivChat does not sell Gmail content or use it to build advertising profiles.
Replies sent through RivChat are sent by Gmail and remain subject to Google’s terms, Gmail settings, and the connected account’s policies. Files attached to a reply are transmitted to Gmail for delivery.
You may disconnect Gmail from RivChat at any time. Disconnecting removes the Gmail connection stored by RivChat and prevents further Gmail access through RivChat. You should also remove RivChat’s access from your Google Account security settings if you want to revoke the Google authorisation completely. Disconnecting Gmail does not automatically delete email content already imported into RivChat or copies retained by Gmail. Imported content remains subject to RivChat’s retention and deletion procedures.
RivChat does not guarantee that Gmail messages, attachments, synchronisation, or outgoing replies will always be available, accurate, complete, or successfully delivered. You are responsible for confirming recipients, content, attachments, and permissions before sending an email.
You should only connect a Gmail account and process email content that you are authorised to access and use. Business users remain responsible for complying with applicable confidentiality, professional, contractual, data-protection, and regulatory obligations.
7. Google API Services Disclosure
RivChat’s use of information received from Google APIs complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. RivChat uses Gmail data only to provide the Gmail features described above and does not transfer Gmail data to third parties for advertising, selling data, or unrelated purposes.
Google’s handling of data is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy and applicable Google account terms.
You can manage or revoke RivChat’s access through your Google Account security settings.
8. Legal Bases for UK and EU Users
Where UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we generally process personal data on the following legal bases:
- Contract: to create accounts and provide RivChat features
- Legitimate interests: to secure, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the service
- Legal obligation: where processing is required by law
- Consent: where consent is legally required, including certain optional communications or technologies
Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing that took place before withdrawal.
9. Sharing Personal Data
We may share limited personal data with:
- Hosting and infrastructure providers
- Email providers, including Resend
- AI providers configured to support River
- Security, fraud-prevention, and technical-service providers
- Professional advisers, auditors, or insurers
- Law-enforcement bodies, regulators, courts, or public authorities where legally required
- Another party where necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of users or ByCrow Ltd
We do not sell personal data to advertisers.
We do not share conversation content for advertising purposes.
10. International Transfers
Some service providers may process personal data outside the United Kingdom or European Economic Area.
Where required, we will use appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as adequacy regulations, standard contractual clauses, or another legally recognised transfer mechanism.
11. Data Retention
We retain personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy.
Retention periods may depend on:
- The type of data
- Whether your account remains active
- Security and fraud-prevention needs
- Legal or regulatory requirements
- Backup and disaster-recovery processes
- The need to resolve disputes or enforce agreements
Messages may remain stored while needed to provide conversation history. Deleting an account may not immediately remove information from encrypted backups, technical logs, or records that must be retained for legal or security reasons.
12. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including:
- Password hashing
- Access controls
- Restricted administrative access
- Secure transmission where supported
- Database and infrastructure protections
- Monitoring for security and service issues
No online service is completely secure. You are responsible for using a strong, unique password and keeping your account credentials private.
13. Your Rights
Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may have the right to:
- Request access to your personal data
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Request restriction of processing
- Object to certain processing
- Request data portability
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
- Complain to the relevant data-protection authority

UK users may contact the Information Commissioner's Office. EU users may contact their local data-protection authority.
14. Deleting Your Account
You may request deletion of your RivChat account.
Account deletion may remove or disable access to account information, messages, connections, and related content, subject to information that must be retained for legal, security, fraud-prevention, backup, or dispute-resolution purposes.
Deletion of an account does not automatically delete copies that another user may have lawfully retained outside RivChat.
15. Confidential and Professional Information
RivChat is not a regulated medical-record, legal-case-management, or professional-confidentiality system.
Therapists, lawyers, coaches, and other professionals must independently assess whether RivChat is appropriate for their work and must comply with all applicable confidentiality, professional, safeguarding, contractual, and data-protection obligations.
Do not submit sensitive client information unless you have the necessary authority and safeguards.
16. Children
RivChat is intended for users aged 18 or older.
We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us so that we can investigate and take appropriate action.
17. Cookies and Similar Technologies
RivChat may use essential browser storage or similar technologies to maintain login state, preferences, and basic application functionality.
We do not use conversation content for advertising or cross-site behavioural advertising.
Any future non-essential cookies or similar technologies will be used in accordance with applicable law and, where required, with consent.
18. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the service, legal requirements, or data-processing practices change.
The updated policy will be published with a new “Last updated” date.

These Beta Programme Terms apply to your use of RivChat during its beta period. By accessing RivChat or creating an account, you agree to these terms, along with RivChat’s Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.
1. Beta Access
RivChat is currently being provided as a beta service. Beta access may be free, limited, invitation-only, or available for a limited period.
We may change, suspend, restrict, or end the beta programme at any time without notice. Features, availability, limits, and performance may change during the beta period.
2. Experimental Service
RivChat is under development and may contain errors, interruptions, inaccurate results, or incomplete features.
River’s analysis is generated for informational and communication-preparation purposes only. It is not professional, legal, medical, therapeutic, financial, employment, or business advice.
You remain responsible for your own decisions, communications, and professional judgement.
3. Client Communications
You are responsible for ensuring that you have the necessary permission, authority, legal basis, and safeguards to process any information entered into RivChat.
You should not enter confidential, personal, medical, legal, financial, or identifying information unless you are authorised to do so and understand the risks involved.
RivChat does not independently verify whether a message was genuinely sent by a client.
4. River’s Analysis
River may analyse selected messages and relevant conversation context to provide communication insights.
River may identify possible tone, intent, emotional patterns, communication signals, and possible responses. These are inferences and may be incomplete or incorrect. They are not factual determinations of another person’s feelings, intentions, or character.
You must not rely on River alone when making decisions involving safety, health, legal matters, safeguarding, employment, or other serious consequences.
5. Feedback
During the beta period, we may ask you to provide feedback about RivChat.
You agree that we may use feedback to improve, test, troubleshoot, and develop RivChat. Please do not include confidential client information in feedback.
6. Pricing After Beta
Beta access does not guarantee that RivChat will remain free.
Before introducing paid access, we will provide information about available plans, pricing, included features, and any applicable limits.
We will not charge you for a paid plan without obtaining the required payment authorisation.
If you do not select a paid plan after the beta period, we may restrict, suspend, or place your account into read-only mode. We will provide reasonable notice and, where appropriate, an opportunity to delete your information.
7. Data and Privacy
Information submitted during the beta period is handled according to RivChat’s Privacy Policy above.
You should review the Privacy Policy before using RivChat and should not submit information that you are not authorised to process.
8. No Guarantee
Beta access is provided on an “as available” and “as is” basis to the maximum extent permitted by law.
We do not guarantee that RivChat or River will always be available, accurate, secure, uninterrupted, or suitable for a particular professional purpose.
9. Ending Beta Access
We may end or change the beta programme at any time. If beta access ends, we may offer paid plans or discontinue access to some or all features.
10. Acceptance
By ticking the agreement box or accessing RivChat, you confirm that you have read and agreed to these Beta Programme Terms, the Terms and Conditions, and the Privacy Policy.
